      The People's Car = The People's vehicles

Volkswagen means “People’s Car” – however, your challenge is to create the people’s “vehicles” for the future.

With China’s population becoming more and more affluent, those outside the tier 1 cities are increasingly keen to get on to the ‘ownership ladder’.

Outside the main cities there are many more people working in agriculture, trade and logistics industries. These individuals and families travel to the cities to trade, and return to the countryside to work. Being a huge country, this presents particular challenges.

Your challenge is not to develop one car, but to identify the perfect pair of vehicles for such a situation. Which two vehicles are required for the family or business needs?

Imagine that in the future you go to the dealership and buy not one car but two modes of transport. One vehicle cannot be everything to everyone, so the customer’s needs are satisfied with an integrated transport concept. You are to develop this concept.

Consider the following:

- How will they work together?

- They must be efficient (in terms of both space and fuel) and clean running. What fuel do they use? What fuel does the future Chinese consumer want?

- Think about the family and businesses based “out of town”.

- Present the scenario in which they all have transport needs (including the children growing up) and develop concept proposals for the two vehicles that most suit these needs.

- Within the city, low speed (for shopping & trading), space-efficient transport is required. Outside the city one can travel faster so more aerodynamic vehicles are more efficient.

- Do the vehicles travel individually? Can they travel together to save energy?

Please select 2 vehicles from the following categories to develop:

1)      A small commuter vehicle for use in the city.
2)      A multi-purpose vehicle suitable for a small business or land owner
3)      A two-wheeled electric vehicle
4)      An efficient vehicle for long-distance travel.

The judges will be looking for innovative, creative concept solutions and modern aesthetics that fit the Volkswagen brand. Attention to how the vehicles work together, how they fit together or share components will be rewarded… good luck!!!!
